Game Brainstorm

Image
In this blog post I will give 4 ideas for games I would like to develop For my first idea I would take inspiration from games Pummel Party, Mario party and other real life board games. These games are based around mini games and to reach a end goal to get to the end of the board or get to the most amount of currency or some type of object in a certain amount of turns. These are my favourite types of games to play but will be hard to pull off to the amount of work that I will have to put into it to get all the mechanics working the way I do but I believe I can make it work in a much more simple form as I will describe below The idea of my first game will be 3D board game where the objective is to move through the board avoiding traps. You will move through the board using some sort of chance of luck form, like a wheel spin or a roll of a dice. It would be single player as getting it mulitplayer would be extremely hard to get working. The colour scheme I have in my head for this ide...

Feedback Shower Thoughts

I first had a read through the fixed vs growth mindset article. It was a interesting read by Ann Arnold who talked to Professor Jill Klein. This article was talking about the fixed mindsets of people and the growth mindsets. Professor Jill Klein goes into detail how a fixed mindset can make someone more fragile or brittle person growing up as it shows that in life its a everyone wins game and but they will always be stuck at a certain point, like that they will be stuck at a certain level of intelligence but for the growth mindset people is that they always have room to improve and better themselves every time and are open for criticism. Have a read more about it here : https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-26/fixed-vs-growth-mindset-at-work-and-in-life/9897782 Another article I have read about was the "Silence the Critical voices in your head"  and how they can help turn the negative thoughts into your head into somewhat positives. They went through different steps in the...

What the f*** is Game Design

I spent little under a hour to read through these readings and only manged to get passed the first one on what is a game really?, But I took up a lot of information from what I did gather and I am very interested in this topic and let me explain why. In  games there always needs to be a outcome, or an objective you need to overcome. That could be beating the boss in the end or if its something like just beating your friends  and there being a set of rules according to David Parlett. I believe this is true. I think for anyone to have a successful game there needs to be a good outcome unless their game is story based like my personal favourites GTA and Red Dead Redemption. Another thing I have found interesting in this reading is that repetitive saying of "Games are a form of art" And I could agree more, Down from the graphics, down to the rules they are a sight to behold. Games being art is something I have never heard of but it is so true. And also seeing all the things that ...

Unity Tutorial 01

Image
I have just finished doing the Unitiy tutorials. What a journey. I found out it was a lot easier than expected to complete. As a big gamer myself I love to figure out the mechanics and find out the ways a game is made and Unitiy seems like a great way to find out about all that stuff for beginners like myself. The tutorials were easy to follow and I never really had to double back on them to follow along again. I found this project really fun to do as its something I never done before and its different from just typing up an essay, If I were asked to do this without a video guide I would probably still be very lost on whats going on but Unitiy seems like a very easy way to understand the mechanics off game design. Although it was very simple to follow I did have to edit certain things myself, for example the Tank vehicle. I had to edit the camera view cause it was a bigger sized vehicle and needed a better field of view so you can see the track ahead. Other than that I really enjoyed d...
