Game Stories

Image
I really enjoy this weeks reading with the whole story telling in video games, a couple of years ago my favourite story telling game was Minecraft story mode. At the time just regular Minecraft was super fun to play and I was not sure on how they were going to turn it into a game. But with a more 3D and personal connection with the characters. Sacrifices having to be made, a character in the storyline dying. Although I loved this game after having a read I do have some thoughts that had gave me a different look on things Firstly after watching the video, the narrator was right with most story based games, although I may get a personal connection with some of the characters, most of the time the storyline is still the same just with different outcomes at different times if you decide one or the other. So I think for future story games having that bit more random outcomes based on the actual game play would be fun and probably more challenging It seems difficult to make a story base...

Week 9 Reading and Writing

Image
Looking back at the beginning of this semester especially with multimedia development 1. I have found it some how of a struggle. At first it was my time management and being able to find times to do my work while keeping a healthy balance of other work for the course, my part time job and just having an over all social life too. All the work looked so scary as there was 6 tasks to complete each week. And that there was the biggest put off and I found myself falling behind as I thought I would never get it done. But as the weeks went on and I started finding time I realised that it did not take me as long as I thought it once would of. This module has defiantly been the most challenging this year, but there are also positives that I had found in it.  Firstly I have to say I loved doing the twitter tasks and seeing everyone else's tweets. I think it was a fun way to connect with the class and it was most different thing I liked doing this year across the course. I also liked do...

Game Fun

Image
This week for my reading we learned about games and what makes them fun and enjoyable to play through out them and some of the elements I will discuss. Games are always made for you to learn more and try to improve on like games like chess or Mario. One of my favourite games to watch is Mario 64. And players trying to speed run like famous streamer Mizkif. Games like this help you learn new ways to play a game and try find patterns. Games like chess and poker would be considered type 1 based games. They are all about thinking. I do find this interesting because I never knew about these type 1 and 2 based games and how they do come into certain categories and people do find fun with have strategies to them. And then type 2 games are all about reflexes and quick thinking. This would come into games such as Mario. A bit more fast pace games and dont require as much thinking. I am a type 2 base player. I don't like sitting around too much when it comes to games I like to get straight ...

Games Decisions

This Flow channel makes the player interested because there is a good flow of difficulty and the player has actual fun playing the game. I will show a chart on how this works. But I personally think this is something smart that game designers do and I have found myself fallen into all the categories when the game is too hard or too easy or just that its perfect for me  If you start the game too easy and remains that way. People will get bored too easy and lose interest on what is going on. But if the game is too difficult from the beginning the player will become stressed and anxious and not wanting to play. But if you start you game easily and slowly let the challenges get harder and the player skill increases you get the Flow Channel and this is where game designers are smart about making their games  After this weeks reading I have learned a lot about Flow Designs, about what they are, what they do and how they can affect the game itself. I will give my thoughts about it do...

Games GDD

After doing this weeks reading, I have learned a lot about how to get my game into a early development with the Game Design Documents. The game design document is very important I have figured and can help you so much in the long term and it is something you can come back to if you feel like your missing something from your final game. What I learned from the reading is how to layout my game design document, And ideas of what can be included in it. There is no certain way to do it as everyone will have their ideas and will have unique layouts for it. But there is building blocks and good ideas I have found everyone uses in there one for things such as Sounds, Game design, a quick summary of what their game is about I think if I was asked to make my own game design document I could do it with not many problems. This weeks read for this was very interesting and has showed me that there is so much more than just making a game and there is a lot more idea making and process behind it. Belo...

Games MDA

And then finally the Aesthetics, like emotions of the game or a narrative. All these end elements that can bring a users attention into a game and fall in love with a character or hate one. This here is important if your wanting to make a story bases game but can be brought into mine as I want people to be tense while playing a shooter game  Game MDA's other wise known as Mechanics- Dynamics - Aesthetics. I will explain in my blog post what each one means and my feedback on how I will apply it to my final game. But you may be asking what is a game MDA. In simple terms its what the building blocks of any successful game and I will explain why now We will start off with the Mechanics. These mechanics are as simple as from making your character move, jump, shoot, or even some basic rules into the game that help it get started but when you start to combine these mechanics, it then becomes a Dynamic which I find interesting that they have their own separate term when they come together....

Game Elements

After this small reading I went on and watched the video for week 4's reading task. I learned you can try represent this game in a more physical and abstract ways. Try different methods and ways to try spin up your game a little bit. Like taking away or adding speed. Making 2 objects your going to work with. There is so much more you can do if you have a more open mind and I am going to take all this all into consideration on how to develop my game.  After reading this weeks tasks  I have dove in to what makes a game... well more a game. I've come out with better knowledge on how to make a game and how to strat developing it. Not with the actual software but with idea making. It is a lot easier to make a game when you understand what your goal is. With things such as Rules, Objectives, Player Interaction and much more. These here are only a few of the main game elements that are put in and they can be broken down so much more to make a more complete game. I have als...

What the f*** is Game Design

I spent little under a hour to read through these readings and only manged to get passed the first one on what is a game really?, But I took up a lot of information from what I did gather and I am very interested in this topic and let me explain why. In  games there always needs to be a outcome, or an objective you need to overcome. That could be beating the boss in the end or if its something like just beating your friends  and there being a set of rules according to David Parlett. I believe this is true. I think for anyone to have a successful game there needs to be a good outcome unless their game is story based like my personal favourites GTA and Red Dead Redemption. Another thing I have found interesting in this reading is that repetitive saying of "Games are a form of art" And I could agree more, Down from the graphics, down to the rules they are a sight to behold. Games being art is something I have never heard of but it is so true. And also seeing all the things that ...
